Elise's Blessing

Elise was blessed at church today. She wore a dress that Grandma Marian sent for her. She looked precious. Here is a picture of us after church.

Even though today was a happy day, I was a little homesick. Elise is the first baby that we've blessed with none of our family present. It is so weird. Usually we have a big lunch together with family after, but today we are just home and everyone is eating their own thing...so different than I am used to. I know Elise doesn't care, but I does make for a homesick mama! I really don't like living so far away from family.

I'm Awake!

I AM SO TIRED!!!!

OK...I am officially exhausted! It is so easy to forget how much work a newborn is. Add to the mix 5 children whose needs haven' t lessened with the birth of a new baby (as a matter of fact, I believe that their needs have increased), and you get one exhausted mama (daddy too)!

I had to take Sarah to the dentist this morning with the 2 little girls in tow. We ran errands afterwards - and a blowout diaper, an outfit change and a feeding later we were on our way home with Elise screaming all the way. She had enough and so had I! I definitely had forgotten how slow and hard everything is with a newborn. I guess it is good that we forget, because if we didn't there probably wouldn't be as many newborns around! Thank goodness they are so sweet! On days like today, I keep telling myself that everything is going to be ok, and that it is just fine that all I do today is nurse Elise and play with Anna...My laundry and house will be caught up again one day! However, my babies will be gone before I know it!

This post is to tell 2 special friends, Morgan and Madeline, thanks for making a blanket for Elise. It is so snuggly and warm. It is the perfect size for her carseat! We love and miss you guys! Hopefully soon we'll get a picture of Elise awake!

Sleeping Babies

In my opinion, there is not much sweeter than a little sleeping baby. Here is Elise just a few minutes ago sleeping soundly on the table. She is wearing your outfit Aunt Melanie, and she is on your blanket too! Elise is doing better at night now. She has gone 4-6 hours for the past 2 nights. It is amazing what 4 hours of solid sleep does for a parent of a newborn!

We are all having a great, chilly, snowy Easter.

So, even though everyone looks nice and Springy in their new Easter clothes, it is very wintery outside - WE MISS FLORIDA on days like this! We also miss being near family on holidays. We love and miss you all.

Grandma Susan

January 25 of this year we lost our dear Mother/Grandma Susan. She passed away suddenly at home from complications with her diabetes. We miss her so much. We drove out to Utah. Even though it was a long hard trip, it was good to be together as a family to deal with this loss. There was a sweet spirit present the entire week. It was amazing. The viewing was the happiest viewing that I have ever attended. It was so neat to meet so many of the people that Susan influenced over the years. The funeral was hard, but very nice. I felt that it was a very intimate, family oriented funeral. All of the grandkids sang, "I Am a Child of God", Leslie and Neil spoke, Alan read the obituary, and Aunt Carma read a poem. It was a beautiful service.

I am so grateful for the knowledge that we have of the gospel. I am grateful to know where Grandma Susan is. It makes it easier to deal with the loss to know that we will be together again. What a woman - to help raise seven such strong, wonderful children. I hope that I can do as good a job as she did. I miss her greatly!

Update

I have neglected my blog long enough!! I guess I am not great at keeping touch on here either! Hopefully, I'll make it more of a habit and get better at updating.

Today is Elise's due date and she is 3 weeks old. I think that she is already getting bigger, and I want to slow her growth down a little! These past 3 weeks have been 3 of the hardest we've had in a long time. The week Elise was born was Neil's busiest week of the semester. While we were in the hospital, two of the kids at home got a tummy bug. That meant that I didn't have much time with Neil at the hospital. This was a big change for us. In the past, when we had a baby my mom was at home with the kids, and Neil was at the hospital with me the whole time. I really missed him while I was up there, and I REALLY miss being near family. Luckily, we are blessed with wonderful friends in this area. Ladies from our ward and friends from the other ward brought us dinners for a whole week! They also took Anna for the week I was home before my mom came. This was a huge help for me and for Anna.

I can't believe that we are the parents of six children!!! Every time I think about it, I am in awe. Life is good for us and I feel so blessed to have the family that I have. I am thankful for the Lord's hand in our lives and how he has blessed us through the service of others.

My mom left today - very hard for me - I wanted her to be here longer. I hate living so far away. Thank goodness she was able to be here. We enjoyed having her and Granddaddy here. They were a huge help. Neil was able to do a lot of catching up at work with out as much guilt for being away from home. Thanks Grandma and Granddaddy!

Little Elise

The Newest Headman - Our Announcement from March 2, 2008

We are excited to announce the birth of the newest member of our family...

Elise Laura Headman

Elise was born Saturday, March 1 by an emergency c-section. We feel very blessed that she is here with us and that baby and mom are both fine. We both are home from the hospital and our family is adjusting to having a new baby in the house again. What a joy it is for us to have this sweet, gift from Heavenly Father in our home - we just love her.

Elise weighed 6 pounds even and was 20 inches long. She is a tiny precious little bundle!

Thanks for all of your prayers in our behalf. We have felt them and have been strengthened by them.
